Facebook is a strong Social Networking tool with the flexibility to post images, messages and updates to be read both online, on mobile devices through apps and by email. With such flexible capabilities, it is not a Social Network to be overlooked.
Here are a few tips to help grow your business’ Facebook following and strengthen your social sphere:
Spread the Word: The first step you should take after creating your Facebook page, if you haven’t already done it, is to start telling everyone it’s there. Put it on your business cards, put it in the signature of your emails and spread the word. If you already produce something like a newsletter for your customers, use it to announce your arrival into Social Media.
Be Active: Update regularly and with good content. It’s important to find the right balance between posting too much (essentially spamming your followers) and posting too little. Try to stick to a schedule of when you will make your posts and experiment with the timing. What might succeed at 6pm for one company might do better at 10am for you.
Don’t Be Too Dry: Most visitors to Facebook are looking to be entertained, so if you make every message post a standard advertisement, no one will pay attention. Try uploading some videos. Something like Old Spice is a great example of a successful advert. It was funny and a bit strange and everyone just had to show it to their friends.
Add Photos: Photos can be another great way of getting people on to your page and having a look around. Just as you would with your other content, they have to add value to your page. Don’t post blurry pictures of your morning coffee, take pictures that will inspire or make people laugh.
Host Contests: If you don’t already sell something you think would be appropriate as a prize, go out and pick up an iPad or a Kindle. Set some rules and tell your followers to like or share to enter. Shares are the more valuable of the two as it will put the post on the user’s wall and spread the word even further.
Interact with your Followers: If they make a comment, reply to it and show that you’re paying attention to them. If they have some pages of their own, go on to them and start liking them. Even better, if they post something that is relevant to your page, share it on your wall. By doing this not only are you putting your name in front of more people, but you’re also building a positive reputation at the same time.
Building a base of followers on any Social Network can take time but it’s important to keep at it. Eventually your hard work will pay off and your business will see the benefits.
