Twitter is the second biggest Social Network, beaten only by Facebook. Having a Twitter account is a must for every business, blogger and celebrity. Most Social Network users will have either a Facebook or Twitter account your business should have both.
Branding: As you would in any other situation, it’s important to present yourself properly. Use your logo and work on your profile so it looks good when people view it. This also applies to the content of your Tweets too. Make posts that will interest your potential customers and keep them coming back for more.
Hashtags: Understanding and using Hashtags is essential. You can use them to either represent your company as a whole or a specific product or event. For example, if you were hosting a shoe sale you could ask your customers to follow #shoesale2013 Then you could put this at the end of every post relating to your sale and even include links to the items on your website.
Automation Programs: You will also want to make use of a Twitter-automation program, such as Hootsuite. Automation programs such as Hootsuite allow you to pre-program Tweets to go out in a calendar, ensuring a continual stream of your messages to your customers. It is far better to guarantee 3 posts a week than to bombard your followers with hundreds of posts one day and none the next.
Following: Follow like-minded people. If you follow someone as popular as Stephen Fry it is unlikely that he will return the favour. However there are a large number of people that will always follow back if you follow them. And in turn, if someone follows you, make sure to follow them back, it’s only polite!
Quality Content: Lastly, don’t spam your Twitter account with links and Hash Tags. Try to create a balance with what you’re posting. If you only ever post the same advert over and over again, you’re customers might decide that you’re not worth having on their homepage.
Building a base of followers on any Social Network can take time but it’s important to keep at it. Eventually your hard work will pay off and your business will see the benefits!
